The IMOLA IV project commenced on 1 August 2024 and will be developed over the subsequent 24 months. The project was inaugurated with a kick-off conference held on 5 November at the Residence Palace in Brussels, conducted in a hybrid format.
The event saw the participation of 60 representatives from land registries across Europe, as well as representatives from European universities and the European Commission (EC).
IMOLA IV, which is funded under the Civil Justice Programme, represents the continuation of the MOLA I, II and III Projects. The project’s primary objective is to enhance the quantity, quality, and accessibility of the Knowledge Organization System (KOS) developed for European property registry connection and harmonisation of juridical information.
Mr. Mihai Taus, President of ELRA, and Mr. Pedro Pernas, IMOLA IV Project Manager IMOLA, together with ELRA members and the Project Coordinator, were privileged to welcome a number of distinguished experts from the European Commission.
An overview of the new Interoperable Europe Act was presented by Mrs. Natalia Aristimuño, Director of Digital Services at the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Digital (DG DIGIT).
Mrs. Alina Nedea, Head of Unit Sanctions at the Directorate-General for Financial and Monetary Affairs (DG FISMA) of the European Commission (EC), delivered a presentation on the «Implementation of EU Sanctions.» The topic of discussion was «Identifiers and Uniform Implementation».
Mr. Cristian Nicolau, Head of Unit DG Justice (EC), presented insights on the construction of an IT system for cross-border juridical cooperation.
As an integral component of the project, Mr. Pedro Pernas, IMOLA Project Manager, presented an overview of the project, while Mr. Jorge López, WP2: The Project’s Juridical & Semantic Coordinator, exposed a deep understanding of the ELRD and Mr. Paulo Garces, and WP3: Technology & Services Coordinator, outlined strategies for improvement of the project.
Professor Mrs. Elena Ioriatti (Trento University) was invited to present the findings of her research into the harmonisation of European legal concepts. Additionally, the project partners, namely Mr. Enrique Maside (CORPME), Mrs. Filomena Rosa (IRN) and Mr. Rafael Vale e Reis (CENoR), were afforded the opportunity to share their invaluable insights, thereby representing the voice of their respective associations as partners.
The event ended with a closing ceremony led by Mr. Mihai Taus, ELRA President. Overall, the event was a resounding success, making a meaningful milestone in the IMOLA IV Project and the future of Land Registry Interoperability in Europe.
