On February 25, 2026, the seventh training seminar of the IMOLA IV Project was held online, bringing together members of IMOLA IV and European Land Registry Association (ELRA), as well as invited speakers and project representatives. The session focused on the timely and strategic topic of artificial intelligence and case law analysis, highlighting its growing importance for legal practice and land registry systems within the European framework.

The seminar was opened by Mihai Taus, President of ELRA, who welcomed participants and briefly introduced the objectives of the session. The main theme of the seminar, “Artificial intelligence and case law analysis: the importance at the present time”, structured the discussion around three core objectives:

  •  An exposition on artificial intelligence and case law analysis.
  •  An update on the current progress of the General Questions and Factsheet Questions.
  •  A case study devoted to the analysis of the mortgage as a collateral guarantee.

The first substantive presentation, entitled “Artificial intelligence and case law analysis”, was delivered by Roberto Sierra, Presiding Judge of the Commercial Court of Pamplona, Spain. His intervention examined the role of artificial intelligence tools in the processing and analysis of judicial decisions, addressing both their practical potential and the legal and methodological challenges associated with their use. Particular emphasis was placed on the implications for legal certainty, consistency of case law and cross-border understanding within the EU. The presentation was followed by an interactive Q&A session with participants.

The second part of the seminar began with an introduction to the collateral principle by Rafael Vale e Reis, from the Faculty of Law of the University of Coimbra. His contribution provided a doctrinal framework for understanding the legal foundations of collateral guarantees, setting the scene for the subsequent case study.

Elena Prada (ELRA Treasurer) then presented a practical case study focused on the mortgage as a collateral guarantee. Her analysis illustrated how mortgage-related issues are addressed in practice and how structured data and case law analysis can contribute to greater clarity and comparability across jurisdictions.

Anabel Fraga followed with an update on recent technological improvements within the IMOLA framework. She explained how these developments enhance data processing capacities and support the project’s objectives in terms of interoperability and access to reliable land registry information.

The seminar concluded with closing remarks and an outline of next steps by Pedro Pernas, IMOLA Project Manager, who outlined forthcoming project milestones and activities.
