The property of foreigners: challenges
- How much data is collected by your national land registry about a foreigner when making a real estate transaction?
2. Do you use a uniform person identification number?
We are trying to use a uniform person identification number for every foreigner who acquires property in our country. However, this is not always possible because the documents they provide us for identification, such as passports do not bear the same number in case of renewal. Therefore, we cannot be certain whether it is the same person in order to use the same number.
2.1. If Yes, do you use persons assigned number or make your own national number?
If a foreigner (European or not) obtains an Alien Registration Card-ARC (which is a residency visa issued to individuals who are not citizens of Cyprus for long-term stays in the Republic of Cyprus for purposes of work, study or family reunification) we use the number that is written on it and at the end of the number we add the digits /1/5 (for example 5009372/1/5).
If not, then we create our own national number that ends with the digits 2/9 (for example 26229/2/9). The number before the digits /2/9 is given automatically by the Land Registry system.
3. Do all State information systems use the one/same person identification number?
The answer to this question is NO.
