1. WHO CAN APPLY FOR INFORMATION: IS THE LR ABSOLUTELY PUBLIC OR NOT?
The information in the Land Register (LR) is public with some exceptions. No specific reason must be stated to get access to the information. Some information is not public because it is classified as secret, for example personal information of some owners to prevent harassment.

2. WHERE CAN BE FOUND THIS INFORMATION?
The information is available online against a fee, for more information; see Lantmäteriet’s (the Swedish Mapping, Cadastral and Land Registration authority) homepage for more information: www.lantmateriet.se. Online access to all detailed information is allowed in approved purposes, for example purchase, mortgaging, insurance, property management, constructing. The information is also available by contacting Lantmäteriet central office or some of Lantmäteriet’s regional offices through telephone, by mail or by e-mail, see homepage.

3. HOW TO OBTAIN IT?
You will need the property designation, municipality, village/block and unit, for example Malmö Carolus 34, or the address of the property (municipality, street name and address number), or organisation (companies) number to get access to the information. There is no specific application form to use. The request can be done through telephone, by mail or by E-mail in Swedish or English, for online information, see above. The information supplied by mail or by E-mail is free. The information is in Swedish. An official excerpt from the LR is released in the form of a gravationsbevis. The fee for an excerpt is 230 SEK (Swedish Crowns) and is available in Swedish.

4. WHEN DOES THE EXCERPT ISSUES?
An excerpt is released on request, whether there is an unsolved registered application or not, and is valid for the currency day that is current for the day of the request.

5. WHAT IS THE VALIDITY PERIOD OF THE EXCERPT FROM THE LR?
An official excerpt, gravationsbevis, is valid for the currency day that is stated in the excerpt. An excerpt also protects a mortgage lender acting in good faith if a mortgage lender has relied on an official excerpt maximum one month old when entering a contract of mortgage.

6. WHERE CAN THE EXCERPTS FROM THE LR BE USED?
An excerpt may be used by public authorities, in real estate transactions, in mortgage lending or in personal matters. Usually information is accessed through online application.

7. HOW TO IDENTIFY THE IMMOVABLES?
There is a unique identity for every property. It consists of municipality, village/block and unit, for example Malmö Carolus 34.

8. LR AND CADASTRAL RELATIONSHIP:
They are integrated in the same system.

9. How does the land registry deliver its output to an applicant?

On paper Information about decisions and registration in the land register is usually delivered on paper to the applicants. Some information is delivered digitally.
In person, at a land registry office
Via email Excerpts or information from the land register, copies of documents connected to applications etc. may be delivered electronically or given over phone or by paper.
Via a digital interface Some information about applications are delivered through an e-mail service.

10. Are the digital forms of delivering land register information cheaper/expensive than non-digital delivery forms? Could you please provide a price indication?

Non applicable regarding decisions and registration of ownership and other documents connected to land registration.

11. Which forms of delivery are made use of most – digital or non-digital? If possible, could you please provide an indication in percentages?

Regarding information about decisions in land registration applications, most notifications are sent in paper form. About 40 % of all of the land registrys sent notifications are in digital form. Please note that some of the notifications refer to decisions that are not made public in the land register.

Copies of documents from previous cases and applications connected to land registration are usually delivered digitally in accordance with the principle of Access to public information.
