The LR in Sweden is a department of a national authority, Lantmäteriet, the Swedish Mapping, Cadastral and Land Registration authority. The LR part has seven district offices that each has its own area. Each office processes the applications concerning properties in its area.

The applications can be presented in person to one of the offices or sent by mail. It does not matter to which office. Electronic application is being considered, and hopefully introduced during 2012.

All applications are registered in special register for applications and the document enclosed with each application is scanned. An application is processed electronically. It is only decisions over an application that is entered in the LR.

The application can be refused, postponed, declared dormant or granted. Fees or stamp duty is only charged after the application has been granted. A fee is also charged for an application that has been declared dormant.
