The property of foreigners: challenges

Home / European Land Registry Network / Sweden / The property of foreigners: challenges
  1. How much data is collected by your national land registry about a foreigner when making a real estate transaction?

2. Do you use a uniform person identification number?

2.1. If Yes, do you use persons assigned number or make your own national number?

Yes, but only for those who have a Swedish personal code number or a Swedish identification number for foreigners or a specific Swedish tax-number.

3. Do all State information systems use the one/same person identification number?

Yes generally, but only if the number is in accordance to the answer to question 2.1. Other numbers are not entered in the real property register. It is currently not mandatory for foreigners to have a Swedish identification number in order to be registered as an owner of immovable property.
